A study highlighted by The Guardian revealed that a key ingredient in the contraceptive pill, ethinylestradiol (EE2), is making its way into Britain’s rivers — and it’s toxic to fish and aquatic life even at incredibly low levels. Scientists have discovered that just 1 nanogram per litre of EE2 can cause serious harm, including infertility and even sex changes in male fish.
